Comfort from the Scriptures

Written by TroublingHer on January 14, 2010

Fulfilling your call to ministry is challenging enough without consistently encountering people who doubt your calling and abilities, or that attempt to hinder your efforts because of your gender. Below are some scriptures to help comfort you during difficult times.  Or share one of your favorite scriptures in the comments.

Psalm 143:12

And in your steadfast love you [God] will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant.

Isaiah 54:10
‘For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 66:13
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

John 15:20
Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

2 Corinthians 1:5
For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Hebrews 12:7, 11
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?…For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
